"Online Silviculture Libraries Enable Exchange in Forestry Community"

December 01, 2025

An article about the impact that online silviculture libraries have on forestry in America was co-written by members of the Department of Forest Resources and UMN Extension, among others, and published in the December 2025 issue of The Forestry Source, the monthly newspaper of the Society of American Foresters (SAF).

Thanks to these accessible online libraries, forestry researchers and land managers can more easily share about and learn from each other's work. In total, there are three, which are organized by region (the Great Lakes library, Northeast library, and Southeast library). Importantly, the UMN Sustainable Forests Education Cooperative (SFEC) manages the Great Lakes online silviculture library, demonstrating the tremendous role the U plays in studying and caring for Great Lakes forests.

UMN authors of this article include Lane Moser, program coordinator at SFEC, Eli Sagor, SFEC program manager and UMN Extension specialist, and Marcella Windmuller-Campione, Forest Resources associate professor in silviculture.
