Six long-term research projects focused on invasive species and forest health conclude

August 31, 2023

In 2023, 14 invasive species research projects came to a close for the Minnesota Invasive Terrestrial Plants and Pests Center (MITPPC), six of which focused on forest health and involved researchers in the Department of Forest Resources.

These projects have been operating for several years, some starting as far back as 2016.

Forest health projects include:

  • Novel diagnostic tools for rapid and early detection of oak wilt (phase 3)
  • Detection and treatment of oak wilt (phase 2)
  • Biocontrol of glossy buckthorn and reed canarygrass with rust fungus
  • Developing Dutch-elm resistant trees
  • Cover it Up! Using plants to control buckthorn (phase 2)
  • Exploring public perception of emerald ash borer management through virtual and augmented reality
