New Research Informs Carbon-Aware Forest Management Practices

Recent research led by Forest Resources Associate Professor John Zobel and funded by the Minnesota Forest Resources Council (MFRC) aims to help policy makers and land managers understand how carbon moves through the forestry sector by capturing the full, complex life cycle – all the way from the forest floor through the decay or recycling of a wood product.

 

 

 

Getting Results: 10 Years of ASCC Data Collection

Sixteen years after its founding, the Adaptive Silviculture for Climate Change (ASCC) Network has grown to become the country’s biggest experimental silviculture program focused on climate adaptation, involving more than 200 land management and science collaborators at 14 sites across the United States and Canada.

Class of '57 Supports Forestry's Future

Alumni from the University of Minnesota Forestry Class of 1957 were awarded the inaugural Constellation Award at the Borealis Night of Excellence last spring. Throughout their lives, this group has shown incredible care for and dedication to our nation’s forests. They've also provided invaluable support for the next generation of University of Minnesota-trained foresters through the Class of 1957 Undergraduate Scholarship.

 

 

 

Work Experience with Maria Suarez

In order to fulfill the final credits needed to complete her BS degree, Maria Suarez (Forest and Natural Resource Management, ’25) completed a summer internship out west with Northwest Management, Inc. Capturing Nature with Researcher and Photographer Alan Toczydlowski

Forest Resources researcher Alan Toczydlowski captures breathtaking photos of wildlife, plants, and landscapes that have won categories in the annual Boundary Waters Photo Contest, among others. He took a few minutes to share about his passion for photography and pointers for capturing great photos while out in the field.
