The Minnesota Invasive Terrestrial Plants and Pests Center (MITPPC) recently published an article highlighting the collaborative efforts between land managers and researchers from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC), MITPPC, and Forest Resources.
This partnership began years ago with the Cover It Up! project and has now sparked four research projects focused on buckthorn removal and forest restoration. Each of these projects is united by the same guiding principle: directly supporting and elevating on-the-ground management decisions.
“One of the most meaningful parts of this work has been seeing [Mike] Schuster’s team build strong relationships with land managers to help “bridge the gap” between research and on-the-ground management,” said Ferin Davis Anderson, Natural Resources Manager for SMSC, in the article.
