The Reich Research Lab is hiring!

February 24, 2023

The Department of Forest Resources is recruiting for two open positions with the Reich Research Lab. Apply today!

Cover It Up! Program Coordinator

This successful applicant will serve as coordinator for the Cover It Up! research program. Cover It Up! incorporates a series of experiments that evaluate novel methods of forest understory management and invasive plant species control, centered on using native plant species to suppress buckthorn invasions. The coordinator will organize and lead the field team (responsible for implementing and monitoring experiments) for Cover It Up! field experiments, mostly within daytrip range of the Twin Cities, in collaboration with other researchers. The coordinator will also oversee the Cover It Up! Citizen Science program in collaboration with other researchers and University of Minnesota Extension. The Cover It Up! Citizen Science program tests how seeding native plants impacts buckthorn re-establishment and other ecosystem properties in partnership with a network of dozens of volunteers across Minnesota.

Postdoctoral Associate

The Reich Research Lab is recruiting a postdoctoral associate to work on the project titled “Making Revegetation Feasible for Minnesota.” The overarching goals of the project are to develop successful strategies for invasive species (buckthorn) removal and subsequent management, to simultaneously constrain buckthorn recovery and recolonization, and enhance native diversity, composition, and abundance. Main responsibilities will involve overseeing a multi-year research project funded by the Legislative Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) through the Minnesota Invasive Terrestrial Plants and Pests Center at the University of Minnesota, which are aimed at developing strategies for encouraging desired plants to grow vigorously enough to help suppress buckthorn.
