The UMN Forestry Club got some hands-on forest stewardship training by helping to clear brush through pile burning at the Cloquet Forestry Center (CFC) in October. Together with CFC Director Kyle Gill and Research Forester Lane Johnson, club members assembled burn piles to safely reduce the build up of fuels in the understory.
"I feel like this trip was an amazing experience because the club got to do hands-on [work] at the CFC,” says Mary Ulrich, Forestry Club president and FNRM senior. “It was cool to see a group of people who didn't all know each other initially come together, learn about forest management actions, and support each other through a new experience."
